I sit here this morning by my window in Kihei, Maui and feel the cool breeze drifting through the window. A stark contrast to the brisk air is my piping hot cup of coffee.
I enjoy opposing sensations in conjunction with each other – a cool fan blowing on my face at night while the rest of my body is snug and warm under the covers; sweet sliced pear atop the savory and spicy bulgogi tacos at my favorite restaurant, Monkeypod Kitchen; and of course warm coffee with a cool breeze blowing in.
All my life, I’ve been a story of opposites from two completely different lifestyles living separate lives with each of my divorced parents (who were a stark contrast from one another), or growing up with best friends who were polar opposites of each other as well with me being a balance between them. Perhaps this is why I have an ability to see and analyze and understand both sides of an issue, or why I have a sort of talent for balancing opposing spices in the same dish. Whatever the cause, I’m happy I am who I am.
As I sit drinking my coffee and enjoying my life, I couldn’t be happier.
