Because I love to cook, people are often asking me favorite food? I am a sentimental gal, and I must say that spaghetti marinara is my absolute favorite. I grew up with an Italian stepmother, so Italian food is my first love in food – the bread, the herbs, the noodles, the sauces… oh, the flavors. I have fond memories of standing in Nonni’s kitchen at about 7 or 8 years-old and taking in the aroma of rosemary, garlic, and onions.

To this day, rosemary, garlic, and onions are my three favorite things to cook with. If you dine at my home, chances are, these are the scents that will greet you when you walk in the door. (Seriously, if you want to impress a date, be sure you are lightly sautéing some rosemary, garlic, and onion in some good olive oil just before your date arrives, and he or she will smell that heavenly aroma and think you are a culinary genius… trust me, IT WORKS!) And because I am already with my lifetime guy, I can risk giving away this little secret.

Over the years, I have perfected my own basil, oregano, garlic, and onion marinara sauce and have combined it with a puttanesca-style sauce with capers, red pepper flakes, and kalamata olives. With a splash of red wine, and a small dash of my secret ingredient (I will never tell), the result is a spicy and savory treat that leaves me reaching for bread to sop up the rest of the sauce. Mmmm…
